Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Please feel free to forward this along to friends.
What I’m listening to
“Eau Rouge, Pt. 1” (YouTube, Spotify) by Gelka (@gelka).
Audiobook I’m listening to
Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake (@MerlinSheldrake). This is a beautifully written and deliciously thought-provoking book. The portions on lichen alone made my head spin. From the description: “In Entangled Life, the brilliant young biologist Merlin Sheldrake shows us the world from a fungal point of view, providing an exhilarating change of perspective. Sheldrake’s vivid exploration takes us from yeast to psychedelics to the fungi that range for miles underground and are the largest organisms on the planet to those that link plants together in complex networks known as the ‘Wood Wide Web’ to those that infiltrate and manipulate insect bodies with devastating precision.” Low bow to R.G. for getting this book on my radar.
TV series I’m watching
1883 (Amazon, Apple TV, YouTube, Google Play, Paramount Plus). From Wikipedia: “The series is a prequel to Taylor Sheridan’s series Yellowstone and follows the story of how the Duttons came to own the land that would become the Yellowstone Ranch.” Taylor Sheridan is one of my favorite writers and directors out there. The series stars Academy Award nominee Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw (who was also kind enough to answer questions for Tribe of Mentors), Faith Hill, and others. Watch the trailer here. I am loving this series, and many thanks to Brother Brad for getting the trailer in front of me!
Short video I’m sharing for awkward laughs and pre-Halloween horror
“2022 year in the markets review.”
Quote I’m pondering once again
“Those who are easily shocked should be shocked more often.”
— Mae West
You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my interview with mycologist Paul Stamets, my conversation with Giuliana Furci on the wonders of mycology, and my discussion with Dr. Mark Plotkin on all things ethnobotany.
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
P.S. Deal of the Week — Levels!
I wrote about the health benefits of using continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) more than ten years ago in The 4-Hour Body. At the time, CGMs were primitive and hard to use. Levels has now made this technology, and the unique insights that come from it, easy and available to everyone. Levels is making glucose monitoring simple, helping you see how food affects your health through real-time feedback. I started tracking my glucose years ago to learn more about what I should and shouldn’t be eating (including quantities, time of day, etc.), based on objective data from my own unique physiology. To give just one example, I was surprised to see how dramatically mildly large meals spiked my blood sugar, even when low-glycemic overall. Since keeping my blood sugar stable is critical to my daily performance and long-term health goals, these are insights I pay attention to. Poor glucose control is associated with a number of chronic conditions like diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, and obesity. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Levels has a world-class team and group of advisors backing them, including names like multi-time podcast guest Dr. Dominic D’Agostino and former SpaceX engineer Josh Clemente, who you may have heard on Kevin Rose’s podcast. For a limited time, Levels is offering 5-Bullet Friday readers 2 additional months for FREE on your annual Levels membership when you use my link here. Start measuring how food is affecting your health in real time by checking out Levels here.
