​This is such a powerful question. I'd like to begin by celebrating the fact that you are still looking for impact. Your soul still wants to contribute to a better world, despite the years of disillusionment. That is something to celebrate!
​
Your concerns are real. You say "impact is really hard to assess"... it might be hard to assess, but it is not hard to see. I would start by making a list of all the times you've seen true impact over the course of your career. Not by measuring it, but by knowing it. The moments when you knew that everything was worth it and you were making people's lives better.
​
From there, I'd invite you to reflect on the question: what does "meaningful change" mean to you. Try to answer this honestly. Try to answer it with your heart rather than your brain. Then ask yourself, "how can I be part of that meaningful change?" It might be in the international development sector, it might not. And that's perfectly OK!
