'Where is Nancy?'

A 42-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attacking 82-year-old Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D, CA-12), at the couple's San Francisco home early morning Friday. The suspect, identified as David DePape, faces charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, and burglary, among other felonies. 

DePape was allegedly searching for the House speaker when he broke into the home shouting, "Where is Nancy, where is Nancy?" before striking her husband with a hammer. Paul underwent surgery at a hospital for a skull fracture and injuries to his hands and right arm. He is expected to recover. The House speaker was in Washington, DC, with her protective detail at the time of the attack. The incident is the latest in a series of crimes or threats to political figures (see data). 

Officers were dispatched to the Pelosi residence around 2:27 am local time when they encountered DePape and Paul. The assailant's motive is under investigation.

"I had just finished doing some shopping when I approached the exit and saw it was pouring rain outside. As I was standing there, contemplating to keep waiting or to run out to my car, a woman approached me with an umbrella. She asked me where my car was and I told her I had parked it a fairly good way out in the parking field but she said that was OK, that I should tie my shopping bag up so my items wouldn't get wet, and she walked me all the way out to my car, covering me with her umbrella. I thought she was some kind of angel."
