Today we’re listening to Carl Stone, an experimental composer from Los Angeles. We first recommended him in early 2020. Stone began experimenting with computer music in the ‘80s, “fusing his compositional ambitions with systems of live performance that were simultaneously pop savvy, commercially suicidal, and technologically forward-thinking,” his label wrote. Stone’s work features skippy samples that disintegrate and dissolve over time, redolent of William Basinski. We’re playing a collection of his music from the ‘80s and ‘90s as well as his latest record, We Jazz Reworks, Vol. 2. For the latter, which came out a couple weeks ago, the label We Jazz invited Stone to mine its ten releases for sample material for his aural collages. Electronic Music from the Eighties and Nineties - Carl Stone (80m, track 2 has some heavily chopped vocal samples) We Jazz Reworks, Vol. 2 - Carl Stone (30m, no vocals) Have a really nice Wednesday. |
