Ari Takata-Vasquez

Where are the places you can invest in your community? Where can you invest in yourself?”

When muralist and entrepreneur Ari Takata-Vasquez discovered that $2 billion in retail slips away from Oakland businesses every year to Amazon and big box retail elsewhere, she took matters into her own hands. In her CreativeMornings/Oakland talk, she shares how she saw an outsized opportunity to create something that keeps dollars in Oakland and contribute to making the city great. In the face of skepticism and concern all around her, she opened an American-made, brick-and-mortar shop in downtown Oakland called Viscera. Watch Ari Takata-Vasquez’s talk and marvel at what can grow when you bet on yourself and invest in your own community.
