MIDDI - Instant Gratification
In search of the finer things in life — because the finest ones still cost too much.In this day and age, we’re all pretty impatient. We want what we want when we want it. Delays are something no one has time for—can you imagine if we still lived in a dial-up world? This impatience also comes through in how we shop. We don’t want to wait a while for something to arrive or for its effects to kick in. We crave instant gratification and have come to expect it in many aspects of our lives. Sometimes it works, and sometimes we end up with a slew of impulse purchases that don’t live up to the hype or the cost. The three products in this week’s edition all fulfill that craving for quick results. They’re ready to use right away and give us the impact we’re after almost immediately. No buyer’s remorse. Because time waits for no man. 1. OUAI Detox Shampoo ($12 and up) If you have hard water in your home or use a lot of dry shampoos, you’ve probably noticed your hair doesn’t always feel “clean” after you wash it. Over time, mine will start to look dull and lose its bounce. This shampoo from Jen Atkin’s brand OUAI (previously featured here), fixed that issue from the first wash. The secret to this formula’s success is apple cider vinegar, which gently removes dirt, oil and buildup. But don’t worry, you won’t end up with tresses that smell like salad dressing. I like to use it every third shampoo, followed by a deep-conditioning treatment. 2. Cole Haan ØriginalGrand Wingtip Oxford ($59.97 and up) I think every shoe wardrobe should include a pair of Oxfords. They can dress up more casual looks and make a great alternative to heels or ballet flats. Wear them with tights or funky socks for your own twist on this menswear-inspired style. My favorite ones are from Cole Haan, not only because of the price but because of the fact they’re comfortable from the first wear. I can walk all around the city in them knowing I won’t end up limping home at the end of the day with blistered heels. I have this black pair which I wear with dresses, jeans and trousers for all occasions. 3. H&M Home Stoneware Vase ($17.99) While decorating my shelves in our new home, I got stuck. I was staring at the same spot unsure how to pull it all together. I wanted to find something simple and bold that would complete my vignette without costing a fortune. Enter H&M Home. This black stoneware vase makes a big impact no matter where you put it. Mine is propping up a print on a high shelf in my living room and really jumps out against my white walls, with or without blooms inside. It also survived a tumble which I wasn’t expecting, especially given the price. Now I want the larger one shown above.
