What does NutritioApp do?

NutritioApp is a SaaS that helps nutrition professionals (nutritionists, dietitians, nutrition coaches) to grow and scale their nutrition business.

It helps them to:

  • handle far more clients in less time by automating the repetitive tasks in their work like meal planning, sending questionnaires, sending messages, payment links, creating coaching programs that run on autopilot
  • Win more clients by using powerful lead magnets they can use to easily interact with their clients right on their website
  • Offer premium experience by having a personalizable whitelabel interface for their clients along with a mobile app

How did you get the first $1k MRR for NutritioApp?

The first thing we did was to create an audience before we launched the app by connecting with nutrition professionals on LinkedIn. Then we reached out to them after we did a soft launch asking them for feedback. The message was “Hey John, I see you are a nutrition expert. We’re launching a platform that helps nutrition professionals save a lot of time. Here is the link… We would love to get your expert feedback on the platform. What do you think?” A good number signed up and provided feedback.

The second thing we did was to collect feedback from the users and to improve the product. We still do it up to this day because it is much easier to sell a good product. We are trying to offer the best support even if this is something that doesn’t scale on the long run.

A big part of our clients come from nutrition schools. Initially we reached out to them then they started talking among themselves and we started to receive requests from schools. We give the app for free to nutrition students while they are in school and some of them are converting into paying clients after they finish. We also gave free subscriptions for scientific research, the app was used in a few studies and we’ve been mentioned on the articles where the studies have been published, including backlinks.

Here are a few of them:

The biggest marketing channel for us was and still is SEO.

We optimized the website from the beginning to respond to some queries searched by nutrition professionals that are at the bottom of the funnel (they know they have a problem, are looking for a solution and are committed to fix it quickly).

A few examples are below (all of them are on the first page of Google):

  • “Nutrition software” goes to homepage
  • “software for dietitians” goes to homepage
  • “software for nutritionists” to homepage
  • “Meal planning software” to https://nutritioapp.com/meal-planning-software/
  • “Nutrition coaching software” to homepage

We started then to do some content marketing coupled with SEO and we publish yearly an article with nutrition conferences in that year that is most of the times one of the first 3 results when you search for “nutrition conferences” or “nutrition conferences 2022”. This has brought us a lot of traffic and a pretty good amount of leads in the funnel.

We also created a lead magnet - a PDF titled “10 ways to get more clients as a nutrition professional in 2022” and put it on all blog pages. Visitors are then subscribed (with their approval) to our newsletter and get product updates and content that helps them start and grow their practice.

How have you scaled NutritioApp beyond $1k MRR?

Once we reached $1k MRR, we started to see some trends regarding the profile of our ideal users and we implemented some features around the ideal customer like the ability to create fitness plans, coaching programs that run on autopilot, HIPAA compliant video calling and the option to collect payments from their clients. We are still working on the product and plan to continue with a more concentrated marketing campaign once we finish some implementation. We divide our time between making the product perfect for our clients, providing extra value (extra services), marketing and attracting more clients and providing the best customer support.
