MIDDI - Light as a Feather
In search of the finer things in life — because the finest ones still cost too much.
Lightness is a state of mind. It’s all about tuning out the negative and looking for the positive in any situation. Lightness means separating from everything that’s weighing you down, unburdening yourself and being more carefree. Easier said than done, right? One way to do that is to get rid of the things that aren’t serving you and surround yourself with what makes your life better and you happier. This week’s three featured products all provide comfort and style, but with a lighter touch. They’re made to compliment the rest of your routine, wardrobe or decor while still standing on their own. It’s time to think lighter thoughts. 1. Dr Sam’s Flawless Body Therapy (£29) Body creams have always been tricky for me and my acne-prone skin. But now that I’m in my mid-thirties, it’s time to start paying as much attention to my skin from the neck down as above. One of my favorite mid-priced skincare brands as of late is London-based dermatologist Dr. Sam Bunting’s range, which includes this light, fast-absorbing body cream. The blend of brightening, firming ingredients includes bakuchiol, niacinamide, lactic acid, shea butter and squalane. I can use it all over—even on breakout-prone areas like my chest, shoulders and back—without worry. 2. COS Pure Cashmere Scarf (£79) A cozy scarf is an autumn/winter must for me, but nothing is worse than having a scratchy one constricting your neck. And while I like something bold, a classic, solid-colored scarf is always worth the investment. COS (previously featured here) makes this reasonably priced option from 100 percent sustainably sourced cashmere. Available in six colors, it’s easy to pair with any coat and makes a perfect wrap for chilly flights. It’s also machine washable—just be sure to avoid washing it too often to keep it in great shape from year to year. I like my art colorful, but that doesn’t mean it has to be harsh. I have been a fan of artist (and fellow Michigander) Kelly Ventura for years. She makes the most beautiful watercolors—some are very detailed floral pieces, while others are more simple and abstract. Her designs can be found on a range of items now, including textiles and wall coverings, but you can’t go wrong with one of her prints to add a delicate touch of color to any space. I have two pieces of hers in our home now, including an original I snagged during one of her sales (be sure to sign up for notifications). Something to think about … I’ve been thinking a lot about hobbies lately and how easy it is to forget what you used to do for fun. November 2 marked World Ballet Day. The day after, I stepped back into the studio for the first time in 10+ years. Reconnecting to my body and something that was all mine has been such a sweet, cathartic treat. Last week on MIDDI … MIDDI is a weekly roundup of mid-priced beauty, fashion and home buys released every Monday. Have a product you’re searching for? Leave your suggestions in the comments. |
