[Crew Review] Amazon’s biggest Black Friday yet?

Despite inflation woes and fears of protests, Amazon saw a record-breaking Black Friday weekend this year, which more than likely reflects sales performance for third-party sellers on the marketplace.

Full details here.

Amazon Top Terms

Today, we bring you the top 10 trendiest terms on Amazon, from November 13th to November 26th, that are hitting the market these coming holidays. So let's get to it!

In today’s top 10 terms, we find that some of these keywords have made their way up by offering big discounts for Black Friday, such as “thyme and table cookware set” and “apple black friday.”

Products related to these terms have sold 1,326 units per day for the former and 552 units per day for the latter in the past two weeks.

Amazon Close to Settling EU Antitrust Cases

Earlier this year, Amazon was hit with probes and lawsuits by EU antitrust regulators over its use of third-party seller data to give itself a leg up over independent sellers on its marketplace.

A new update from Bloomberg reveals that the European Commission is likely to accept the ecommerce giant’s binding proposals by the end of the year. These include a commitment to stop using data on independent Amazon sellers for its competing proprietary brands.

Amazon has also promised “to apply equal treatment to all sellers when ranking their offers for the purposes of the selection of the winner” for the Buy Box, which significantly affects sales performance and visibility for sellers.

Chinese Amazon Sellers Are Still at It

A recent report by Marketplace Pulse reveals that, contrary to what was previously thought of, Chinese sellers have recouped lost market share on Amazon over the past two years—ergo, Chinese sellers aren’t abandoning the marketplace anytime soon.

Other third-party Amazon sellers face constant competition from Chinese Amazon sellers, who make up more than half of the total seller base for the US marketplace alone. Competition from Chinese sellers can take the form of white-hat selling tactics, or downright black-hat hacks for which Amazon has previously imposed mass account suspensions.

eBay Glitch Catches Sellers Off Guard

Over the past few days, eBay sellers were surprised by the company taking out large withdrawals from their accounts, following a weeks-long period where select sellers were not charged commission fees due to apparently being chosen for a special promotion.

A moderator from eBay, which is among Amazon’s closest competitors on the ecommerce front, says this was due to a glitch that caused delays in billing sellers for fees. However, they failed to address the fact that they never informed sellers of the issue nor did it give any warning that it would begin withdrawing large sums from seller accounts.

Amazon Continues to Retreat Internationally

Amazon will be shutting down its wholesale distribution business in India, adding to its list of business exits in the region after deploying over $7 billion for overseas expansion over the past decade.

According to reports, Amazon has not said why it was shutting down the wholesale distribution offering, but the move comes on the heels of the ecommerce giant shutting down its food delivery and online learning platform Academy in India.
