It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

All the year-end charts, data, and graphics are released and ripe for sharing. In addition to the standard personal data (top artists, songs, etc.), Spotify is providing listeners with social-friendly stats the company hopes will generate the kind of buzz it has in the past.

A cool, new part of Wrapped is the Listening Personality: a ‘music personality’ feature to analyze how you listen and assigns you one of 16 flattering categories, such as “Adventurer,” “Fanclubber,” and “Specialist.” If you love personality tests—who doesn’t—you’ll love diving into the 16 possible listening personality types created for 2022 Wrapped.

For the record: Adventurer.

I’m proud to say that my #1 tune this year is a repeat champion!

Spotify Wrapped is awesome. A genuine cultural phenomenon. And lots of fun. There will be those lugheads in media who try to rain on the Spotify parade — but to hell with them. Let’s all enjoy the annual overview of our music taste and revel in the joys of music and streaming and Spotify.

✔️ Amid all the Wrapped hoopla I’m excited to debut a new feature to the weekly newsletter: Featured Playlist.

The debut installment comes by way of the most excellent Music Club, a newsletter here on Substack featuring music recommendations delivered directly to your inbox every week. Lora does a bang-up job, and I highly recommend checking it out; from album and set recos to curated playlists spanning all genres, you’ll have music to listen to all month.

✔️ I wanted to make mention of the passing of Christine McVie, the Fleetwood Mac singer- songwriter, who died Wednesday aged 79. I was only able to see Fleetwood Mac once - Hollywood Bowl on the reunion tour in 1997 - and they were, of course, awesome. But I always loved McVie. She was a sensational musician and singer.

🔥 Spotify Wrapped 2022 Is Live

Spotify released its 2022 Wrapped recaps on Wednesday that dig through the data about your musical tastes for the year.
This year's Wrapped includes new features like your Myers-Briggs-style "listening" personality type and a tracker of how your musical mood changes over the course of a day. As usual, Wrapped also sums up your own top artists, genres, songs and podcasts, plus total minutes listened on Spotify.
