Poem-a-Day - Poetry is singular this way

Dear Reader,

As a poetry reader, you know that one of the gifts of reading poems is taking the time to experience, as Terrance Hayes wrote, “Not what you see, but what you perceive”—“not the noise, but its rhythm.”

At the Academy of American Poets, we provide readers with regular opportunities—through Poets.org, Poem-a-Day, Teach This Poem, and more—to reflect on another’s ideas, perceptions, and music. We also recognize, with gratitude, that, as a nonprofit organization, we can only do so with your partnership.

Please take a moment today to support and keep our many poetry publications and programs accessible to a growing community of readers.

In the last year, an additional 45,000 individuals subscribed to Poem-a-Day, our Academy newsletters, and Teach This Poem, and an average of two million readers visited Poets.org. This awe-inspiring growth means we need to raise at least $150,000 this month to sustain these free programs and publications in the new year.

Poems ask for our undivided attention and encourage a depth of thinking that centers us. Thank you for helping us share the gift of poetry with more readers!

With heartfelt thanks,

Tess O’Dwyer
Board Chair

P.S. All donors with a gift of $50 or more will receive our 2023 Poem-a-Day Wall Calendar, featuring lines by the poets who will serve as Guest Editors in the year ahead. Make your gift today to reserve yours!
