Startup whiplash hits some VC sectors harder than others

There is no denying that 2022 has been a challenging year for startups. But it has not been equally difficult for every sector of the VC-backed ecosystem.

We use PitchBook data to examine how the deal value, deal count and valuations of 11 verticals have fared in 2022. In a weird year, these were VC's most resilient and weakest tech sectors.

PE secondaries market set to boom in 2023

The private equity secondaries market is ripe for growth in 2023, according to consultants, advisers and managers who work in the space. The anticipated transaction volume is a result of investor demand for liquidity.

Facing the denominator effect and a nearly frozen IPO market, both LPs and GPs turned to the secondary market as an alternative liquidity option. And as the market continues to accept secondaries as a mainstream liquidity option, the secondary market is expected to experience tremendous long-term growth.

Israel's VC funds bring in more cash as European hubs struggle

Fundraising in Europe's smaller VC markets grew faster this year as the region's largest hubs, such as the UK and France, faltered.

The continued maturation of the European venture ecosystem has pushed more capital toward Israel and other less-established areas as LPs seek new opportunities.
