MIDDI - Fresh as a Daisy
In search of the finer things in life — because the finest ones still cost too much.
I’m not a fan of New Year’s resolutions. Or rather, I’m not a fan of forcing yourself to stick to them. Starting the new year with good intentions is fine, but punishing yourself for changing your mind isn’t worth it. I do believe, however, in a New Year’s refresh. Even the best routines need shaking up from time to time. We get comfortable or bored, or maybe what we were doing before just isn’t cutting it anymore. The three finds this week can take the place of old standbys in your routine without feeling like a complete overhaul. They’re also all under $75, so you can switch up your style and regimen without guilt. Out with the old, in with the fresh. P.S. “How to Shop for … “ will be a monthly special edition going forward. Thank you for giving these editions of MIDDI so much love and let me know if you have any product queries. Stay tuned for what’s next! 1. Dr Sam’s Flawless Cleanser (£16) The first step in any successful skincare routine is a cleanser. Finding one that works well for your skin type can be tricky, but when in doubt, go the gentle route. I’ve continued to add more products from Dr. Sam Bunting’s line (previously featured here) to my routine because they’re effective, reasonably priced and free of fragrance and other common irritants. If you’re an adult with acne, this line is one to check out, starting with her gel cleanser that doesn’t foam but still removes dirt, oil and products easily. I like to use this one in the morning or if I need a midday cleanse. 2. Mads Nørgaard Bel One Cappa Bag FAV (€49.50 and up) Let’s leave the micro bags in 2022. My first introduction to the crossbody bag was the larger messenger bag that I had to have after seeing Julia Stiles sport one in 10 Things I Hate About You. This bag is one of Danish brand Mads Nørgaard’s signature items, fitting in between a messenger bag and a smaller camera bag, size-wise. Made from polyester, it’s durable and perfect for days when the weather might turn. Best of all, it has a variety of compartments to keep you organized. I picked up this multicolored style in Copenhagen last month. 3. Boy Smells ASH Candle (£44) Changing up your home fragrances can make all the difference in your space. And trying out new brands is fun, especially when they present a fresh take on things. Los Angeles-born Boy Smells was launched in 2017 by co-founders and partners Matthew Herman and David Kien with the mission of creating luxury candles that were accessibly priced and made for everyone. There’s no gendered marketing or categories when it comes to their products, which include candles, body care products, fine fragrances and undergarments. I have my eye on this scent to try next. Something to think about …
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about Anna Kendrick’s appearance on Armchair Expert. Her vulnerability and honesty were so powerful—this story could really make a difference if heard by the right person. Listen and pass it along. Last week on MIDDI … MIDDI is a weekly roundup of mid-priced beauty, fashion and home buys released every Monday. Have a product you’re searching for? Leave your suggestions in the comments. |
