āœļø Notes From The Editors
Ā
Good morning! (or afternoonā€¦ eveningā€¦ night?)

We have readers from all over the globe. It reflects the current startup scene: distributed, talented entrepreneurs around the world. Take Snaptrude, for example. While itā€™s now based in NYC, the company was originally founded out of India. Weā€™re all for more international startup highlights in 2023!
Ā
Side note, another cool newsletter recommendation for you. Our friend (and Unicorner contributor) Noah Edelman writes about crypto basics and news twice a week for his newsletter WTFCrypto. It's one of our favoritesā€”especially great for people with minimal crypto knowledge. šŸš€

šŸ”® Our Analysis
The world of Building Information Modeling (or BIM) tools is dominated by giants like Autodesk. As is the case with most industries monopolized with specific brands of software, innovation is slow. Popular real estate design platforms suffer from limited collaboration tools. Given the many kinds of people involved in each architectural project (engineers, interior designers, developers), itā€™s no surprise that this industry is ripe for disruption. Enter Snaptrude. CEO Altaf Ganihar comes with a background in computer vision and graphics and realized the need for such software after working on an architectural project for an internship. His team wants to innovate real estate design the way Figma or Google Docs changed interface design and word processing, respectively. By being accessible through a browser, Snaptrude is easy to access and simple to add other collaborators to regardless of their operating system. While Snaptrude isnā€™t the only company looking to shake up the market, it is one of the most comprehensive up-and-coming BIM solutions. Features like its cost estimation and simulation tools make it, in the words of its CEO, a truly ā€œfull-stack scenario.ā€

šŸ’° Bonus Content
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has reportedly taken a $10 billion investment from Microsoft in exchange for 49% of the company. As part of the deal, Microsoft would get to keep three-quarters of OpenAIā€™s profits until recovering its investment. Yet in its current state, per CEO Sam Altman, ChatGPT is costing tens of thousands of dollars a day to operate. How will OpenAI generate the revenue necessary to stay afloat and compensate Microsoft? A ā€œprofessionalā€ mode of ChatGPT might be the answer.
