So we meet again,

Mads here with another Top 3 in Tech update. Let's just skip the talk and get right into it, shall we?

1. Narrow your focus

I truly believe that the development industry is one of the best places to build a career.

There's so many different areas to focus on: from back- or frontend development, to app programming, to machine learning or data science. There's also games and other 3D areas. Not to mention hardware programming, IoT or AI.

All of these areas are exciting in their own ways. And the cool thing is that you can focus all your energy on a single area, and still not learn everything there is to know about that topic - even after 10, 20, or 30 years.

At the same time, that thought can also be scary. If there's always new things to learn, how will you know when you're job ready for example? And how do you avoid getting overwhelmed by so many different career paths?

Personally I think the best thing you can do is experiment with all the different areas that seem interesting to you. Research it, then maybe build a small project to try it in practice.

However, just doing this all the time won't help you build actual skills that make you hireable. That's why another key decision you need to make is what area to focus on.

I dabbled with app- and backend development before finding my true passion as a front-end developer. And when I did, I narrowed my focus and went all-in on HTML, CSS, JavaScript + accompanying frameworks.

In the long run, there's simply too much stuff if you want to learn every area of development equally well - so at some point, you need to dive deep.

So, to summarize:

1. Play around with different topics that seem interesting to you
2. Find out which parts of development you like most, then double down on those

Of course you can always experiment and try out stuff later. But trying to learn everything at once is a recipe for disaster, and will (most likely) just lead to burnout without any real skill development.

2. Microsoft planning to invest $10 billion in OpenAI

A few weeks ago we talked about the release of ChatGPT - an amazing new AI model that provides human-like interactions and can respond well to follow-up prompts to improve results.

It's a real gamechanger, and has been the buzz of social media since its release. And now it seems like one of the big players is ready to go in.

I'm personally super excited for the future of AI as a tool to help developers (and others), but am also weary of what it might look like in the hands of a big tech company.

3. Beyond Fireship

Avid readers of the newsletter know that I absolutely love the Fireship YouTube channel. Especially the "X tech in 100 seconds" series is amazing for getting a quick overview / intro to a new framework or programming language.

Well, he recently decided to branch out with a second channel that looks to go deeper on various web-development topics. And, as expected, the content is just as awesome as the main channel.
