Tim Ferriss - 5-Bullet Friday — March 3, 2023

Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Please feel free to forward this along to friends.
New blog post I’m excited to share
“Revisiting Warren Buffett’s Advice to Me in 2008 (Plus: 7 Lessons for Young Investors)” An old video recently resurfaced on social media. It’s yours truly asking Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger a question at the 2008 Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders Meeting. I was intensely nervous, and the audio makes that clear. This clip went viral, and a number of media outlets (Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, etc.) reached out to me for comment, asking me questions like “What advice would you give a 30-year-old now who’d just amassed their first million?” I decided to take a few of my longer answers that didn’t make it into the pieces and write a blog post with more context.
What I’m reading
“What Happens When the Army Needs 36,000 Kettlebells, Fast: This is the remarkable true story of the largest order of fitness equipment ever placed.” Via Alisa Cohn (@AlisaCohn), and kudos to Sorinex (@Sorinex) for threading many needles.
What I’m revisiting on YouTube (free)
HUMAN Extended Version, Volume 1. Sincere thanks to subscriber Dave Thackeray for originally recommending this film on Twitter. It is beautiful, jolting, heart-melting, and brutal... all at once. The footage and stories blend into a powerful visual journey that evoked nearly every imaginable emotion in me. Here’s part of the description: “What is it that makes us human? Is it that we love, that we fight? That we laugh? Cry? Our curiosity? The quest for discovery? Driven by these questions, filmmaker and artist Yann Arthus-Bertrand (@yannarthusbertrand) spent three years collecting real-life stories from 2,000 women and men in 60 countries. Working with a dedicated team of translators, journalists, and cameramen, Yann captures deeply personal and emotional accounts of topics that unite us all.” For more from project HUMAN, check out their YouTube channel.
Album that I’m listening to
Alan Watts and Superposition — Listen, Dream. For me, Alan Watts can be hit or miss, but this is definitely a hit. Coupled with the ambient music, I find this meditation perfect for grounding myself when I’m making coffee in the morning. Here’s a shortened description of the project: “Superposition is an immersion into the inner universe, a meditative antidote to a world of digital overwhelm. Created by Justin Boreta (@boreta) and Matthew Davis (@davisville), this ambient project and record label emerged from the shared search for serenity by two curious artists.”
Quote I’m pondering
“Fanaticism consists in redoubling your efforts when you have forgotten your aim.”
— George Santayana

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with this YouTube clip on kettlebell swings and my short letter to a friend who wants to get in shape, which emphasizes kettlebells as one of the main tools.
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
P.S. Deal of the Week — House of Macadamias delicious and nutritious nuts!
I love macadamia nuts and have been enjoying them often since keto expert Dr. Dominic D’Agostino recommended them on the podcast in 2015. They taste great, and with more healthy, monounsaturated fat than both olive oil and avocados, 27% fewer carbs than almonds, and more than 50% fewer carbs than cashews, they’re the perfect low-carb, keto-friendly, nutty snack. They’re also rich in omega-7s, which promote the natural production of collagen, an essential protein.
House of Macadamias produces the best-tasting macadamia nuts I’ve ever eaten. That’s due, in part, to their location in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, which provides the ideal temperature, altitude, soil composition, rainwater, and pristine mountain water for growing macadamias. Their founders are a brother and sister team with a macadamia-nut heritage—their grandfather was a macadamia farmer, and their father distributes sustainable irrigation technology. Now, they have partnered with the single largest macadamia producer in the world, comprising 94 independent farmers in South Africa, which gets them first pick of the highest quality macadamia nuts in the region to make their one-of-a-kind snacks, like their vegan, paleo, and keto-friendly chocolate-dipped macadamias. They really took their time to get these right, folks, with more than two years of flavor testing. I absolutely love them and have to force myself not to polish off several bags at a time. I’m also looking forward to trying their cold-pressed, extra-virgin macadamia oil, which has a higher smoke point than olive oil and is great for cooking. Ditto for variety with salads.
Now, subscribers of 5-Bullet Friday can use code TIM20 to get 20% off all orders; a free, cold-pressed, extra-virgin macadamia oil worth $20; and free shipping to the US, the UK, and the African continent. If these are not the best macadamia nuts you have ever eaten, House of Macadamias will give a full 100% refund, guaranteed. Visit HouseOfMacadamias.com/Tim to discover some of the most delicious and nutritious nuts on the planet.
