Popular Information - Why Musk attacked me
Popular Information has documented how, under Elon Musk's leadership, Twitter's Community Notes feature has been weaponized against our reporting. Purportedly, Community Notes are used to correct "misleading" tweets and limit their reach. But Community Notes have been appended to our accurate, groundbreaking journalism on Florida classroom libraries — reporting that is supported by irrefutable documentary evidence and confirmed by the Washington Post. This was not an isolated incident. This week, a Community Note was appended to an accurate tweet about crime in DC. I then tweeted about how the platform was being abused. Musk personally responded, tweeting to his 130 million followers that I am a "tool." I consider being insulted by someone like Musk a badge of honor. The problem is, long before Musk bought the company, Twitter has been the primary source of new readership for Popular Information. Now, we can no longer count on Twitter to sustain our growth. That's why I need your help. Popular Information has 234,000 readers, but only a small percentage are paid subscribers. If a few more readers upgrade to paid, Popular Information can invest in alternative growth strategies and produce more accountability journalism that rattles the cages of the rich and powerful. If you upgrade to paid in the next 24 hours, you'll also receive a 20% discount off the regular price: With this special discount, a paid subscription is just $4.80/month or $40/year. Your support will help innoculate us from right-wing billionaires like Musk and ensure that Popular Information thrives for years to come. Thanks, Judd |
