KP's Column - "Shit! We might be onto something here"
"Shit! We might be onto something here"This was me 4 weeks ago when I heard feedback about this little tool we built"Shit! We might be onto something here" That was my reaction when I first heard the feedback from our Build In Public Fellowship users about a little tool my friend Zack and I built 4 weeks ago over a weekend. Today we decided to bring it out to the wider world. Read on. But first, some back story. For years, I struggled with being consistent on Twitter. I had a lot of false starts before 2018; I would go 3 days firing non-stop and then suddenly lose momentum and give up. Nothing kept me accountable and I felt terrible because I knew I was missing out on leveraging the power of Twitter serendipity and building an audience around my products. Then I picked up Atomic Habits (the book by James Clear) In which I learned the power of habits and streaks. He talks about 1) tracking your habits daily, 2) building a streak and 3) finding peers who already exhibit the habits you desire. This changed the game for me. I went from 414 followers to 42,000 but frankly it was not about growth and external validation alone. The REAL WIN was my inner transformation. I went from being inconsistent to being prolific on Twitter. I recently had a hunch to test this theory with 20+ people in my BUILD IN PUBLIC FELLOWSHIP. I asked myself:
So I collaborated with Zack and built a tiny tool called "BIPF Leaderboard" and invited 20 people who also struggled with Twitter journey. It's a simple tracker but looks like a video game and has streaks and badges etc. See below: 4 weeks in and the results have been blowing my mind 🤯. Almost everyone kept using it daily and there was friendly competition for #1 spot of the week. One person shared how she quadrupled her Twitter output and feels like she was having the most fun sharing her content and ideas online. We heard terrific feedback on its impact! Now, we want to bring this out into the wider world and release a public beta on April 10. But first, wanted to show you a landing page and get you inside (with an early bird pricing) if this tool interests you. So here we go: 🚨 New Launch Alert 🚨Introducing "LeaderBird", a Twitter leaderboard and streak tracker so you can compete against others or your past self. Week over week. Check it out: https://leaderbird.co/ The beta is limited to only 30 spots so we can iterate within a tight group and will start on April 10. Would love to have YOU in it and also.. would love to hear any feedback, suggestions or tips. Let me know what you think! I'm super excited for this 🎉 PS: Already landed the 1st paying customer within minutes of the landing page launch. It feels surreal and I am so grateful to be back from the sidelines into the ARENA. As a founder.. building products. This is the shit I dreamed about for years! PPS: A huge dream came true recently when I was invited as a guest to one of my favorite all-time podcasts in tech: “Indie Hackes Podcast hosted by Courtland Allen and Channing Allen. The whole conversation was such a blast as it is evident in how much we laugh and banter in the interview. KP's Column is free today.
