Wirecutter - For the bunnies

Hi, it’s senior editor Kalee Thompson. My team covers kid stuff at Wirecutter—which is the only reason I’ve been thinking about Easter baskets well before that thoughtful bunny’s scheduled arrival. (That’d be next Sunday, April 9.)

Over the past couple years, we’ve collected dozens of ideas to fill out a basket. We look for high-quality items that kids will have plenty of fun with over time—from art supplies, to craft projects, to special books with a seasonal theme. (A little Frog and Toad always feels just right to me as we turn that corner from winter into spring.)

This year, I enlisted my kids as Wirecutter testers. My second grader constructed a white seal from a new Lego Creator 3-in-1 White Rabbit set in February. I got his permission before disassembling it so his older brother could build the eponymous bunny, which can be posed in endless ways and is now hopping about our mantle.

A few more of my favorite options for anchoring an Easter basket include a jigsaw puzzle or a special plush toy, like one of Jellycat’s ultra-huggable bunnies or this adorable Folkmanis hand puppet. And though we made an effort to identify the absolute best Easter basket, we also think a modest canvas tote or plastic beach bucket will do just fine to collect and present all that sweetness.
