Vox Sentences - A trip down memory lane

Hi,

This month, Vox turns 9! We’re running a pledge drive all month, aiming to add 1,500 contributors to help keep Vox free for the next nine years.

To understand why we think free explanatory journalism is important, let’s take a trip down memory lane. While 2014 doesn’t sound all that far in the past, what has happened in the world since then is nothing short of mind-blowing. Here’s just a sample:

• Britain left the European Union
• Russia invaded Ukraine
• The Me Too movement transformed the conversation around sexual harassment, assault, and power
• And then the Depp-Heard trial raised new questions about, as reporter Constance Grady deftly put it, “how we talk about gendered violence in a  post-MeToo world”
• Donald Trump was elected, sparking discussion about authoritarianism’s global rise
• Pokémon Go had us wandering the streets 
• The James Webb telescope took our breath away with the deepest images of the universe
• George Floyd’s murder sparked months of protests
• America's capital was attacked to try to block the validation of a democratic election and transfer of power
• Elon Musk became the world’s richest person, and then ... bought Twitter
• The Las Vegas shooting. The Uvalde shooting. The Lunar New Year shooting. The Pulse nightclub shooting. The Highland Park shooting. Nashville. 
• Ruth Bader Ginsburg died
• Roe v. Wade was overturned
  The ending of Game of Thrones enraged us all (no? just me?)
• Years of sexual abuse within USA Gymnastics came to light
• The people of Hong Kong spilled into the streets to protest a controversial extradition bill
• Wildfires. Heat waves. Earthquakes.
• Jordan Peele started directing movies, and I do not want to remember a time when he did not
• LaLaLand did not win the Best Picture Oscar (remember The Envelope mixup?) 
• TikTok became a thing
• AI is becoming a thing
• Covid 19. I don’t think I need to elaborate on that one.

This is just a sliver of the news since Vox launched. We explained all of it.

And we didn’t stop there. We also tackled the big questions about life and our world that aren’t news but are just as important, questions like: What is the difference between the words Latino and Hispanic? Is it okay to drive in the left lane? How do we fix health care in the United States? How will we feed Earth’s rising population? What are the best solutions for all of the above?
