Thriving In Web3 | BanklessDAO Weekly Rollup
Dear Bankless Nation 🏴, First things first: have you voted on the proposal to withdraw the DAO’s Uniswap LP Pool Fees to the DAO Multisig? This needs one more vote to reach quorum so that we can proceed to bring ~1.1 million BANK and ~9.76 ETH into the BanklessDAO Multisig. A no-brainer? Go and vote please! Speaking of brains, our mental health is so important. There is nothing that the DAO does that is more important than the need for you to nurture and protect your ability to cope. In this week’s editorial, Boluwatife writes that to effectively learn, relate, connect, and collaborate with others — to thrive in web3 — we must be mindful of our mental wellbeing. Boluwatife originally wrote about this topic for the BanklessDAO Writers Cohort, which has just concluded its fourth week with a grand total of 72 published posts by the group during the program. Look out for some of these pieces on Bankless Publishing soon. The Cohort is a great way to learn more about writing for a web3 audience in a friendly and supportive environment. The Bankless Academy squad joined this week’s Community Call for a roundtable discussion on plans to expand learning opportunities for the DAO on a separate platform, complementary to the existing Bankless Academy. We heard from Didier, Tetranome, and Ornella about the idea to create more lessons for bDAO contributors via BanklessDAO Academy. Our DAO contributors deliver real time learning sessions too, and for those who enjoy hands-on practice and group discussion, there are sessions run every week by the Education Department as well as specialist skills training happening in guilds. Thank you for your contribution to the BanklessDAO community and keeping that black flag flying week in and week out. See you again next week. Are there really hidden occurrences that DAO members should be aware of but aren’t? Does this proposal have what it takes to be an emergency protocol and pause the governance activities of the DAO, or is this just speculation about what looks like an emergency but is not really one? To know more, take a deep dive into this proposal on the Forum. Let your thoughts be known and your voice heard. Remember, governance is everyone's responsibility. Thriving in Web3Author: Boluwatife Remember, you are not a machine. It's okay to take a break, step back, and prioritise your mental health. In fact, it's essential. GM frens, we live in the 21st century, in a digitally connected world where innovation is fast paced and the amount of information we consume and create is growing ever larger. Human brains have evolved to store, process, and synthesise information on a scale that is unique to our species. As we move through the third decade of the century that brought us social media, cryptocurrencies, and Pokémon Go, web3 is an ever-growing ecosystem of people working around different time zones and various schedules to push the decentralisation mission further. But what about their mental health?
Our mental state plays an important role in the amount and quality of work we can put into any activity, but stories are rife in the web3 and DAO spaces of people burning out and forgetting to go and ‘touch grass’. Many contributors in the web3 community work across a number of different roles — whether that is an ‘IRL’ job supplemented by DAO work, a combination of paid but part-time duties, or a passion project, we are all juggling like crazy. While some have figured out ways to handle this properly, some have not — in fact no matter how good your time management or meditation techniques, life can get hard sometimes. This can cause issues when delivering certain tasks, which in turn might lead to a breakdown in mental positivity. One thing humans are still learning is how much the mind affects so many things (where your mind flows, your energy goes). When one’s mind is not adequately balanced between activities, it could lead to stress, frustration, and anger, which destabilises the mental health of contributors. An external stressor which can impact our feelings of stability is the need to try and sync with people around the world. No matter what time that meeting or Twitter Spaces is scheduled for, someone in the world should probably be asleep. When we consistently bring our tired selves to problem solving and communication, something has to give, and it can be tempers if we’re not mindful of the ways in which we choose to interact. It’s a challenge, but the exciting part is that web3 also offers the opportunity to create communities and platforms that can reach people across the globe to share and soothe their anxiety, depression, grief, and other mental health challenges. Some web3 organisations have already set up various systems to ensure that the mental health of innovators is prioritised, because if we are being very honest, quality contributors are the main ingredient in producing a great product. While they are not trained mental health practitioners, BanklessDAO has an Ombuds Office to assist with conflict resolution through mediation. This group of five individuals are available to listen and assist in resolving any issues or grievances raised by members, with a focus on finding solutions rather than assigning blame. They create a safe space for contributors to talk out whatever is wrong and settle disputes, which allows for better communication and decision-making. Across web3, DAOs that specialise in health and wellbeing are springing up. Those that offer remote solutions and virtual experiences could better fit the way in which today’s users wish to communicate and be treated. A new generation of clinical practitioners and licensed therapists are emerging, who are willing to offer counselling services to people outside their geographical location. Web3 technology has the potential to revolutionise mental health care by providing more accessible, confidential, and secure ways for people to connect with others and seek help. While addressing mental health requires a multi-faceted approach, web3 builders can prioritise this important cause. As we continue to explore the potential of this technology, we may find that it can be a game-changer in the mental health space. In their article Can Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) Revolutionize Healthcare?, Sara Mateus and Soumodip Sarkar write that:
While online support is a valuable resource, contributors have to find personal ways to prioritise their mental health to ensure efficiency and a better mindset overall. No matter what their circumstances, contributors could try these techniques:
This helps contributors create an environment where they do not sabotage their mental health.

Bankless Card has built a free tool to help you calculate your DAO taxes and prepare you for tax season. Give it a try to see what your tax outflow looks like! 🕵️ Notion AnalyticsNotion has released new page analytics tools that are designed to help us better manage our user count and page activity. Unlike Google Analytics, they are not designed to gather additional insight into users’ greater web activity. However, these tools do impact your privacy. Notion logs usernames and IP addresses, but only the seven workspace members have access to this information within the site’s audit records. These tools have been provided to all Notion accounts, regardless of plan choice, so it’s not something we can control at the organization-level. If this concerns you and you would like to learn more about Notion’s Page analytics, check out this page. If you would rather opt out of analytics on your own account, instructions for how to do so can be found here. 🎌 Bankless Japan in TokyoThe Bankless Japan IMN was out in force in Tokyo to celebrate and promote the great inaugural events taking place last week… DAO TOKYO On April 13, and likely for the first time ever, Kanda Myojin Shrine was packed with DAOists and Web3 contributors from across Japan and all over the world for the first DAO TOKYO event. Organized by Fracton Ventures and supported by Tally and the DAO NYC crew, the day was filled with networking opportunities and ten sessions to inspire and educate and was held in a beautiful venue; it really made this feel like a one-of-a-kind conference in Japan. We heard from dedicated contributors and experts about building DAOs, public goods, governance, community building, and more. This also served as a platform to view these topics from an Eastern lens from those who work in or with DAOs in the region. As attendees mingle, learn, and take the opportunity to take a break outside during a beautiful day, you get a sense of deep optimism everyone has for DAOs and this space. We’re still deep in long-standing issues over governance, remuneration, and whether DAOs should have legal entities. But DAO TOKYO gave everyone a platform to bond and ideate on working out the current issues with DAOs and using this new method of organization to reach different use cases. DAO TOKYO was a great stepping stone between east and west on topics that matter to everyone. We were honored to be a part of this event and share the same sentiment as everyone in wanting to see DAO TOKYO happen again in the future. ETHGlobal Tokyo Taking place between April 14-16, ETHGlobal Tokyo invited web3 builders from Japan and across the planet to a 36-hour hackathon. Here they got to build the future of Ethereum while being rewarded with a great venue that was available 24/7, food, support from web3 companies, and a chance at the bounties in the collective $375,000 prize pool. To really set the stage, the first day kicked off with intros from Karktik Talwar from ETHGlobal, Aya Miyaguchi from the Ethereum Foundation, and more. A large contingent of those residing in Japan were here to hack but also those new to web3 that wanted to use this opportunity to learn and build amongst others. As we walked through the 4th and 5th floors of Toranomon Hills Forum, we could easily feel the immense amount of energy, work and ideas being generated here. ETHGlobal also introduced Pragma and Cafe. Pragma is a one-day talk summit, providing a day of inspiration with talks from Aya Miyaguchi, Balaji Srinivasan, Stani Kulechov and more. Cafe provided hackers a chance to connect and chill before the actual hackathon began. In addition were workshops and panels by those deep within the Ethereum ecosystem as well as Japanese enterprises and government interested in potential uses for Ethereum. ⛴️ BanklessDAO Content🧠 Crypto Sapiens🌍 Bankless Africa Podcasts🙊 Under the Rug✍️ Bankless Publishing🌏 Bankless Africa Newsletter🍔 Grab It While It’s Hot🧑🏽🎨 d’Art DropsThese weekly art drops are done in collaboration with up-and-coming NFT artists, for the Bankless community, presented by Decentralized Arts.
