MIDDI - Back to Black
In search of the finer things in life — because the finest ones still cost too much.Black is the color that keeps on giving. It’s easy to match with different items of clothing or home decor to create your own unique style. No matter the weather, there’s usually at least one black element to my OOTD (probably because I watched The Craft so much in junior high) and when I’m not sure how to match something in my home, I usually default to black. So this week, I’m sharing three more black finds for my fellow lovers of all things la couleur noire. They all have classic designs that transcend trends with quality that holds up. When in doubt, go dark. 1. OPI Lady in Black (£14.90) I love a nude or pastel manicure as much as the next person, but a short, shiny, black nail never goes out of style in my opinion. It’s also one of the only shades that looks just as cool—or cooler—after it chips a little. OPI (previously featured here and here) makes the perfect inky nail lacquer that works just as well with rockeresque outfits as it does quiet luxury-inspired ensembles. You can also use it to create a micro French manicure for a more minimal look. The glossy finish is so chic—who said you have to save those vampy manis for the colder months? 2. COS Ribbed Tank Top (£15) As the weather heats up and I begin making summer travel arrangements, I’m starting to plan out some simple outfits that will be easy to take along with me. And that means going back to the basics. A simple black tank is one such item that can be dressed up or down and layered so easily you’ll never run out of ways to wear it. This one from COS (previously featured here and here) is made from organic cotton to keep you cool with a little stretch to hold its shape. It has a flattering cut to highlight the shoulders and is long enough to tuck in or tie up. 3. Fable Ash Black Dinnerware (£23.80 and up) Now that our new home is up and running and hosting is becoming a more regular occurrence, I’ve been looking closer at the dishes we use for entertaining. While I will always like the look of clean, white or off-white styles, black dinnerware is so striking and dramatic. It can also help hide any imperfections. Fable is a Canadian brand that makes sustainable dishes, stemware, candles and more. Their dinnerware is made in Portugal using recycled clay and is all dishwasher safe. Ash Black is a limited edition color, so snatch yours up before they’re gone! Something to think about … What’s in a door? Apparently, more than $6,271 in added resale value—if it’s black. This article explains a bit of the psychology behind the color black and why it makes the perfect choice for your home’s entrance.
