Today we’re listening to Dif Juz, an English post-punk band active in the 1980s. Thanks Ilsa Jerome for the recommendation. The band – David Curtis (guitar), Alan Curtis (guitar), Gary Bromley (bass), Richard Thomas (percussion and saxophone) – formed in London in 1980.¹ “Dif Juz” is a play on “different jazz,”² describing the group’s freeform, spacey muscality. We’re first playing their 1985 record, Extractions, which showcases this style and features Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser on “Love Instant.” We’re also playing Soundpool, a 1999 compilation of the band’s EPs from 1981 (it overlaps with the extended edition of Extractions on some streaming platforms).³ Extractions - Dif Juz (60m, vocals on “Love Instant” only) Soundpool - Dif Juz (40m, no vocals) Have a wonderful Thursday.
