Flow State - LTJ Bukem
Our friends over at The Quietus have a subscriber drive to save the publication. If you like our recs, they’re often the source, so consider supporting their work. Thank you :) Good morning. It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to LTJ Bukem, an English DJ and producer from Watford. Bukem, whose name comes from the “book ‘em” catch phrase of Hawaii Five-O, fuses his influences in jazz like Herbie Hancock with drum ‘n’ bass and jungle.¹ He founded the Good Looking Records label in the ‘90s, on which he put out the influential compilation Logical Progression in 2001. Citing that compilation, DJ Mag wrote last year that Bukem had “done more than anyone to take drum & bass out of the nightclubs and into our headphones.” We’re playing that disc as well as his 2000 debut LP, Journey Inwards, on which he shows his piano chops as well as sped-up drum break mixing abilities. Logical Progression Level 1 - Various Artists (80m, vocals on track 6) Journey Inwards - LTJ Bukem (80m, vocals on tracks 4 and 8) Have a great weekend.
