Issue 269 - Cybertruck, behind the wheel view

Cybertruck

Cybertruck, behind the wheel view 📷
As far as I know, this is the first 'behind the wheel' picture posted online. In it, we can see the oval steering wheel, the massive dashboard, and the center console that appears to be positioned on the middle front seat.

Model Y

Tesla Model Y vehicles are now shipping with Autopilot hardware 4.0 📷
The Not a Tesla App has discovered on the inventory page that Tesla is now selling Model Y cars equipped with HW4. The main upgrades in HW4 include higher-resolution cameras and wider-angle cameras on repeaters.

Software

Tesla and Uber team up for battery-based trip assignments
Tesla drivers driving Uber can now link their cars to the Uber app, introducing a feature that assigns rides based on the vehicle's remaining battery range. This integration aims to prevent drivers from receiving trips they wouldn't be able to complete without a charging stop. To enable this, drivers must connect their Tesla to the Uber app and agree to share their battery level.

Auto wipers are still using a single camera, single frame
Responding to tweets from my buddies Teslalino and Lars from TodosElectricos, who voiced complaints about the unreliable automatic wipers, Elon stated that this is one of the last neural nets that need to be updated to surround video. I hope Tesla implements this soon, or at least allows us to disable auto-wipers while on Autopilot.

FSD Beta

Big changes on 11.4.2
Our favorite Tesla hacker, Greentheonly, mentioned that despite the version number only increasing by .1. there are substantial differences in the new beta. There seems to be a new auto wiper version (v4), AEB for cut-in traffic, and the FSD Beta suspension was reduced to one week for two weeks before.

FSD Beta v11.4.2
Some improvements are:
  • Improved control and smoothness: Enhanced geometry and topology of lanes and road edges have improved road feature perception, aided by a larger training set and an updated lane guidance module.
  • Enhanced detection and assertiveness: Lane-guidance inputs now improve long-range roadway feature detection, while assertiveness in safely crossing pedestrians and precision in vehicle detection has been increased.
  • Reduction in interventions and errors: A new framework reduces interventions by anticipating lane intrusions, while more training videos have lessened false slowdowns and improved recall for object partial lane encroachment, high yaw-rate cut-in, and cut-out.

FSD Beta 11.4.2  nails U-turns 📹
While version 11.4.2 does a commendable job handling U-turns, it doesn't quite deliver the same performance when navigating roundabouts 😬

🤓 What the Acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
  • AEB: Automatic Emergency Breaking
  • FSD: Full Self-Driving
