Today, we’re going to take a break from the typical do-this-and-you-can-rank advice.

Instead of sharing tips on what TO DO to improve your website’s rankings and traffic, let’s talk about some important things you should AVOID like the plague.

Below are some common SEO mistakes I see many people make that hold their sites back from the success they deserve.

Although these 5 tips may seem simple, neglecting them can have a dramatic effect on your website’s rankings, traffic and long-term earnings:

1. Having the wrong SEO goals
2. Overlooking keywords with on-page SEO
3. Under-optimizing internal anchor text
4. Following the herd with sloppy AI content
5. Ignoring basic E-E-A-T signals for Google

The last one is a mystery to most people.

But the reality is, if you learn how to put basic E-E-A-T signals in your content, and throughout your site, then you can achieve higher (and longer sustained) rankings on Google.

In fact, section 5 of Google’s Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines specifically states that low-quality pages that aren’t worth ranking high in the SERPs lack an appropriate level of E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness).

And a few simple E-E-A-T tweaks may be all you need for your website, or a specific page, to break through a ranking or traffic plateau.

For example:

• Including 1-2 unique elements (at a bare minimum) that are not found in the top-ranking pages for the target keyword can increase your E-E-A-T score.
• Putting key details about the author on the page can boost perceived trust and provide proof of expertise.
• Adding certain types of Structured Data makes it easier for Google to verify the website and the content as credible and rankworthy in the SERPs.
