When you want to learn how to read the tarot but don't have a deck, you might wonder what to choose.

Various sources suggest the Rider-Waite deck is the best deck to learn with because it is the ultimate beginner's deck.

This is, unfortunately, not the case. The Rider-Waite deck is not for everyone. This is not the right deck to start with if you can't relate to it and don't feel drawn to it. 

Choosing the Right Tarot Deck

It would be best if you found a deck you can relate to begin reading the tarot.

The deck you choose should resonate with you. If you resonate with it, you can read from it.

Tarot readings are more meaningful when you connect with them. The following tips will help you pick the right deck:

Search Around Using Your Intuition

For beginners, forgetting that Rider-Waite is the only deck to use would be beneficial.

Look for a deck on Amazon, Etsy, or your local metaphysical store. When searching, follow your intuition.

It will lead you in the right direction. It's essential to go for the first deck you feel is right for you because it feels right. Get it. Don't be afraid to spend time with it.

Become Familiar with the Deck

In most cases, if you found a deck that caught your eye and strongly felt suitable for you, it is.

Sometimes, however, you receive mixed messages. When you look at a deck, you might find it exciting and lovely, so you grab it because it looks good.

When choosing a deck, follow your intuition. It doesn't mean a deck is right for you just because it looks nice. 

Only when you feel disconnected from the deck can you tell if it's right for you. You will feel it because it is pretty strong.

Sometimes, the eye candy wasn't much more than that. Your deck might be worth selling or swapping if you are unhappy. Find the best one by following your intuition.

Despite that, the Rider-Waite deck may not always be the best choice for beginners! It's especially true if you are not attracted at all.
