Today we’re listening to Kate Liu, a Singaporean American classical pianist. Thanks to Max for the recommendation. Born in 1994, Liu took up piano at age 4 and was promptly recognized as a prodigy. She entered the Yamaha Music School in Singapore at age six, which was followed by study at the Music Institute of Chicago, the Curtis Institute of Music, and Juilliard.¹ Since 2010 she has won several international piano competitions, earning special praise as a performer and interpreter of Chopin. The only album she has on streaming is, fortunately for us, a two-hour collection of her performances of Chopin. Released in 2015, the Chopin survey record contains nocturnes, etudes, ballades, waltzes, mazurkas, and sonatas. There’s also a 90-minute solo concert of hers on YouTube from February.
