When Vanessa Kelly’s mother discovered Vanessa was deaf as a child, she taught her daughter to conceal her difference — through the use of hearing aids and lipreading. Being perceived as different was considered dangerous. Follow along Vanessa Kelly's poetic journey, in which she traces how she went from hiding her disability to taking pride in it. Kelly now recognizes that the way she wields silence is her superpower as a corporate lawyer and negotiator. But more generously for us, she invites us to consider all the wounded parts of ourselves that we feel are not allowed or not enough, disability or not.
