“We all have things we want to get rid of, that we’re ashamed of. By looking at other people’s stories we might feel relief because we get to say, I’m not the only one who feels that way.”

Illustrator and comic author Jana Kreisl misses God. As an atheist, she found that there were vanishingly few places in secular life to park her regrets. So she set up a mobile confession booth, where people could enter behind a curtain and share their secret stories, which she would turn into an illustration. Kreisl was surprised by the honesty that poured forth: she listened to admissions that cause their confessors shame and guilt, fear and anger. She learned about our furtive explorations of self and the surprising ways our own internal mysteries emerge. Watch Jana Kreisl’s illustration-filled talk for CreativeMornings/Berlin and find sweet relief in knowing that others wrestle with their pasts as much as you do.

🎉 Introducing Our Second Grow Your Own Way Grand Prize Winner!

In April, we launched the Grow Your Own Way giveaway, a campaign to help Mailchimp & Co meet new agency and freelancer friends around the world and connect them with helpful resources to grow their businesses. We picked two grand prize winners, the second of whom we’re introducing in this issue!

We The Root is an all-female multidisciplinary team of creatives, consultants, designers, videographers, editors, and facilitators in Valencia, Spain.  They work with people and organizations who seek to create a positive impact through creative and strategic consultancies, projects and programs. They also operate a nonprofit organization, The Root Lab, their social laboratory for helping community organizations build collective power.
