Tim Ferriss - 5-Bullet Friday — July 21, 2023

Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward this along to friends.
What I’m rereading
“100 Tips for a Better Life” by Conor Barnes (@Ideopunk). This is a surprisingly good list, despite the generic headline. Thanks to Ryan Holiday (@RyanHoliday) for the recommendation.
What I’m watching
The Big Sick (trailer, Amazon). If you’re looking for a very funny and smart movie, this is just what the doctor ordered (pun intended). It currently has 98% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer. Here’s the description: “The Big Sick is based on the real-life courtship between Pakistan-born comedian Kumail Nanjiani [@kumailn] and Emily Gordon [@emilyvgordon], who fall in love but struggle as their cultures clash. When Emily contracts a mysterious illness, Kumail finds himself forced to face her feisty parents, his family’s expectations, and his true feelings.” I found this movie while looking for the best comedy screenplays online, which took me to this page.
AI tool I’m paying attention to
Introducing Wonder Studio. This tech could have a huge impact on leveling the moviemaking playing field. Advisors and investors include Steven Spielberg and Founders Fund, and the company was co-founded by Nikola Todorovic and Tye Sheridan. From the demo on YouTube: “An AI tool that automatically animates, lights, and composes CG characters into a live-action scene. No complicated 3D software, no expensive production hardware—all you need is a camera.” Here is a two-minute video taste of the tech.
List I’m studying
“The 50 Best Places to Travel in 2023.” I am planning my next adventures, both in the U.S. and abroad, and this list had some unexpected gems.
Quote I’m pondering
“The longer I live, the more deeply I learn that love—whether we call it friendship or family or romance—is the work of mirroring and magnifying each other’s light. Gentle work. Steadfast work. Life-saving work in those moments when life and shame and sorrow occlude our own light from our view, but there is still a clear-eyed loving person to beam it back. In our best moments, we are that person for another.”

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my interview with Kevin Kelly on excellent advice for living, my conversation with Maria Popova on writing and life, and this clip on some of my favorite travel destinations.
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
P.S. Deal of the Week — Maui Nui Venison: responsible, nutrient-dense, and wildly delicious venison with 53% more protein per calorie than grass-fed beef.
I’ve been eating Maui Nui Venison for the past three years, and there’s no going back. During SXSW, I ate their sugar-free venison sticks every day as my on-the-go protein. My pantry and freezers are full of Maui Nui Venison, and I restock every month. Why? (1) If I combine it with even a little exercise, I drop body fat unbelievably quickly. (2) It tastes delicious and isn’t gamey at all. (3) Ethically, I feel great about Maui Nui protein, as axis deer are an invasive species on Maui, where their population needs to be managed in order to protect vulnerable ecosystems. The damage from overpopulation looks like wildfire damage and even disrupts coral systems with runoff.
Harvested using stress-free methods, Maui Nui’s fresh venison is clean-tasting, tender, and one of the most nutrient-dense meats on the planet. A recent analysis concluded that Maui Nui venison contained twice the antioxidants, 8x the healthy fats, and 53% more protein per calorie vs. grass-fed beef. Maui Nui is a near daily go-to for me, both as a supplement to my daily diet (with broth, jerky snacks, etc.) and through main courses (via their fresh-meat subscription program). I fell in love with this company so much that I ended up investing, which is rare.
Remarkably, Maui Nui has nearly stabilized Maui’s axis deer population, and they won’t go beyond stabilization, which is why I’m excited to offer 5-Bullet Friday subscribers 20% off site-wide, including your first purchase of their remaining subscription boxes.
