“In asking for help, you have an opportunity to build a team of people who know how to show up for you – and that is worth every risk.”

Disability rights advocate Olivia Mozzi invites us to shift our thinking, from fearing that we need help and move toward seeing the courage in asking for help. In her talk for CreativeMornings/Indianapolis, Mozzi asks how we can be more intentional about designing a world that includes all of us. She illuminates the difference between universal design and accessibility; the former gives people with disabilities agency and choice, the latter forces them to use a narrow range of options, often as an afterthought. By advocating for herself and for the wider disability community, Mozzi is able to create friendships, break through loneliness and exclusion, and ultimately co-create a world that benefits everyone. Watch Olivia Mozzi’s powerful manifesto and learn how asking for help builds community.
