In that time I’ve published over 200 posts, so if you’re new here there’s a lot of great content in my archives worth checking out. In this email, I’m lifting up some of the best posts that can help us glean where our country is headed in 2024. I’ll be back in early September with new content! Many newer readers probably don’t know about The Fifty: for my first 50 posts I reviewed each state’s 2020 presidential election results. After finishing all fifty, I put together this guide that walks through them all, region by region. Many of these posts dive deep into historical context that is incredibly helpful when trying to understand today’s politics in each state across the country. Idaho’s conservative statehood movement has only grown since my first post in 2021. Turning over a couple stones on the story introduced me to the horrors of the American Redoubt: a white supremacist movement that overlaps with Greater Idaho. For further exploration of white supremacy in today’s politics: go give my most up-to-date post on Wisconsin a read. I dove deep into how conservative media weaponizes whiteness, from talk radio to Fox News and beyond. North Carolina Republicans appeal to rural voters through White grievance politics. Democrats haven’t bothered with much rural outreach at all in recent elections. So who's courting the state’s large population of rural minority voters? The state’s new Democratic chairwoman (the youngest state party chairperson in the country) has a plan to change that. After finishing up my 50-state tour through redistricting, I used that treasure trove of data to highlight America’s New Majority-Minority Congressional Districts. This is a five-post series that dives into the political nuances of America’s diversifying communities. |
