Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you.
This edition is brought to you by Eight Sleep. Be sure to see their offer in the P.S.
What I’m listening to
“La Descarriá” (YouTube, Spotify) by Corina Lawrence featuring Miss Bolivia (Uji remix).
Exercises I’m doing every morning
“Enhancing low back health through stabilization exercise” (alternative link) by Stuart M. McGill, C.M., professor of spine biomechanics at the University of Waterloo. Professor McGill is also the author of Low Back Disorders: Evidence-Based Prevention and Rehabilitation, which I plan on reading. Example videos of the exercises mentioned in the document: Cat-Camel, Curl-Up, Side Bridge (Beginners), Side Bridge (Advanced), and Bird Dog.
Essay I’m rereading
“How to Do Great Work” by Paul Graham (@paulg). One of the many great reminders in this essay: “Competition can be an effective motivator, but don’t let it choose the problem for you; don’t let yourself get drawn into chasing something just because others are. In fact, don’t let competitors make you do anything much more specific than work harder. Curiosity is the best guide. Your curiosity never lies, and it knows more than you do about what’s worth paying attention to.”
What I’m watching
Speaking of competition… The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young. I enjoy oddities, especially oddities that have a strange but compelling logic to them. So it is with the Barkley Marathons. Here is the film description, and it’s not fake: “A famous prison escape sparks the idea for a cult-like race that has seen only 10 finishers in its first 25 years. This award-winning, oddly inspiring, and wildly funny documentary reveals the sports world’s most guarded secret.”
Quote I’m pondering
“Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom.”
— Søren Kierkegaard

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my interview with legendary PT Dr. Shirley Sahrmann, my conversation with Good to Great author Jim Collins, and a brand-new Random Show with Kevin Rose.
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
P.S. Deal of the Week — Eight Sleep Pod Cover.
Good sleep is one of the keys to unlocking your maximum potential. More than 30% of Americans struggle with sleep, and I’m a member of that sad group. Temperature is one of the main causes of poor sleep, and heat is my personal nemesis. I’ve suffered for decades, tossing and turning, throwing blankets off, pulling them back on, and repeating ad nauseam. But a few years ago, I started using the Pod Cover, and it has transformed my sleep. The Pod Cover by Eight Sleep fits on any bed like a fitted sheet and improves your sleep with cooling technology that automatically adjusts the temperature on each side of the bed, based on your and your partner’s individual needs. It can cool down to as low as 55°F or warm up to 110°F, monitoring and responding to your sleep phases and environment for your best night of sleep ever.
Labor Day is a few days away, and summer may be coming to an end, but better sleep can be your new beginning: Eight Sleep is offering subscribers to 5-Bullet Friday $250 off(!) of the Pod 3 Cover. Click here to claim this deal and unlock your full potential through optimal sleep.
