How often is “maximum amount of time spent by an employee” really the ultimate goal? 

More often in knowledge work, the ultimate goal is another outcome like revenue or user engagement.

Time is valuable and easy to measure. But it’s really an input and not an outcome.

The next time you notice you’re managing for time rather than results, consider it a signal that you’re actually unclear or unhappy with your outcomes.

A time-to-outcome reframe: 

“What would I be so happy to see that, even if it took 10 minutes, I would be celebrating this person’s work?”
