The Future of AI... is Super AI?

Recently, the SoftBank World corporate conference gave us some intriguing food for thought. SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son shared a prediction that's sure to get your mental gears turning.

Son projects that within a mere ten years, artificial general intelligence (AGI) – AI that surpasses human capabilities in nearly every field – will become a reality. Furthermore, he believes this AGI won't just match our combined intelligence, but will exceed it by a factor of ten. A thought both exciting and, let's admit, a tad intimidating.

Son asserts, “It is wrong to say that AI cannot be smarter than humans as it is created by humans.” A sentiment that’s both profound and perplexing. It’s akin to our creations not just mirroring us, but potentially outpacing us.

But that's not the end of his futurist vision. Son introduced the concept of “Artificial Super Intelligence,” predicted to come about in 20 years, dwarfing human intelligence by a whopping 10,000 times.

While Son has a history of both spot-on and off-the-mark predictions, it’s probably fair to say that there’s a non-zero chance that everything he’s predicting will actually happen. He stresses the importance for companies, particularly in Japan, to recognize and leverage the unparalleled potential of AI. But let’s face it – this is probably a worldwide need.

With Rene Haas, CEO of Arm, discussing the vital role of energy efficiency in the AI realm and his own beliefs about AGI's eventuality, it's evident that the AI conversation is heating up.

So… where do you stand on this bold AGI timeline? Is the next decade truly our countdown to this AI milestone, or is this just a glimpse into a more distant future?

Where are organizations actually piloting generative AI? A new Gartner poll reveals that gen AI technology is being deployed by organizations primarily for marketing, and customer service (chatbots), while a Google Cloud poll shows enthusiasm for AI tools among developers. These studies show organizations are trying gen AI in some places, but not trying to use it everywhere. Yet.

Canva bolsters AI offerings, providing copyright indemnity for AI-generated images. With Canva reporting that its AI tools have already been used 3 billion times in six months, the visual communication software provider is doubling down on the technology by adding a brand-new suite of AI-powered design offerings.

You don’t get value from technology unless you actually use it. An Associated Press analysis of public records found many of the largest school systems spent tens of millions of dollars in pandemic money on software and services from tech companies, including licenses for apps, games, and tutoring websites. Schools, however, have little or no evidence the programs helped students. Some of the new software was rarely used.

How to write a product positioning statement (with good and bad examples). A Product Positioning Statement summarizes how you intend for your product to fit into (and stand out from) the market. It describes in a single statement what user need is being fulfilled and what your product’s unique value proposition is to fill that need. Lisa Zane explains how to write a product positioning statement that you can use to communicate about your product both internally and externally. (via airfocus)

How to Write a Product Positioning Statement.
