Keke Palmer's 'True Jackson, VP' Theme Song Is STILL A Bop

Wishing Keke Palmer peace + safety and offering a bit of adulation on this Friday. As a bonafide choir nerd, I always have a song on my heart and the True Jackson, VP theme — co-written AND sung by our girl — is prominent among them. Fifteen years ago I was trying to wrap my head around the fashion world and where I might fit in, and as silly as it sounds, the show was a helpful guide. Though I ultimately was not discovered by an impulsive corporate retail CEO — for the best — I’ve more than found my footing. I think it may be time for a rewatch.

I remember being 8 years old, rolling on the floor because we’d been in choir rehearsal for four hours, and I wanted to enjoy the rest of Saturday. But it was amazing, because I was indoctrinated in music making that is all for a reason; there’s nothing that’s ornamental, nothing decorative. All music has a function, and that frame has stayed with me.”
