Flow State - Khatia Buniatishvili
Flow State is the weekday newsletter providing great music to work to (no vocals). We pick one artist each day, tell you a little about them, and recommend a couple of their albums – including streaming links. Our paid subscribers keep us going – if you’d like to support Flow State and unlock extra features, consider becoming a paid subscriber today: Good morning. Today we’re listening to Khatia Buniatishvili, a Georgian pianist from Tbilisi. She took up piano at age three, studying with her mother, and debuted as a soloist with orchestra at age six. She developed extremely fine control over her expression, and her “sometimes sorrowful” playing has roots in Georgian folk-music.¹ She’s released around ten LPs to date since 2011. We’re starting with her most recent one, Labyrinth from 2020, which is a well-curated journey featuring eclectic composers, from Bach to Morricone and Liszt to Cage (yes she includes 4’33”). We’re also listening to Buniatishvili’s 2012 collection of Chopin pieces, which focus on the second sonata and second concerto. Many of her virtuosic performances are also available on YouTube. Labyrinth - Khatia Buniatishvili (80m, no vocals) Chopin: Works for Piano - Khatia Buniatishvili (70m, no vocals) Have a great Wednesday. |
