Issue 294 - Tesla Tire Protection Plan

Tires

Tesla Tire Protection Plan
Tesla's Tire Protection Plan offers coverage against damage from road hazards to tires and wheels, though it excludes cosmetic damages, theft, or vandalism. Available only to California residents, the plan varies in price from $35 to $90 per tire, depending on the Tesla model and wheel size. The plan is valid for 12 months from tire purchase and is transferable to a new owner under certain conditions.

Software Updates

Improvements in the latest app update ðŸ“·
Tesla's latest app update adds Waypoint support, enabling users to plan trips with multiple stops and send the route to their car. The update improves the phone key feature, using recent motion activity to decide if it should allow unlocking the car or not. Additionally, it introduces user-submitted photos of Supercharger stations for easier location and hints at an upcoming Octa-View live camera feature with feeds from eight car cameras.

2023.27.12
According to Greentheonly, this new version brings speed cam and red light camera awareness, and a way to avoid construction on route.

Highland

Highland after 2k km
A Redditor shares their love for the Model 3, highlighting its vastly improved build quality, suspension, and reduced interior noise, especially noting its quietness on highways. They have two main complaints: the awkward use of indicators on roundabouts due to the steering wheel's position and the inefficiency of Teslavision for parking, which they find more of a hindrance than a help. Despite these issues, they are overall pleased with their choice, particularly favoring the new stealth grey color.

Cybertruck

Elon Musk and Sandy Munro discuss the Cybertruck 📹
Sandy interviews Elon about the Cybertruck, in it, Elon goes into some details about the Cybertruck, the 4-wheel steering. As Sandy said, from an engineering standpoint, there is nothing like this.

Cybertruck, 15-85% in 18-20minutes 📹
The pack splits into two to charge natively on existing 400V, according to Drew Baglino. Nice numbers.

Cybertruck crash test: full frontal, side impact, rollover 📹
Video of the Cybertruck going through multiple impact tests. The car looks tough, what do you think?

Powershare
Tesla's Powershare, available in the Cybertruck, allows the vehicle to supply power for various applications like home outages, construction sites, and charging other EVs. It can power a home for over three days with an 11.5 kW capacity and includes multiple outlets for diverse uses. Additionally, Powershare is remotely controllable and adheres to US safety and EMI standards.

Only two Cybertruck colors
After seeing many wraps in the wild, Tesla finally announced only two options, satin black and white wraps for the Cybertruck, priced at $6,500, and a clear satin wrap for $5,000. My guess is that these options will increase over time, but they are keeping it simple as they ramp up production.

Cybertruck accessories
With the first few releases of the Cybertruck, Tesla also listed a lot of accessories on their website, the most interesting ones to me are:

Exterior Accessories:

  • Tailgate Ramp: Priced at $400 for loading wheeled cargo
  • Roof-Mounted Crossbars: Costing $800, available in 2024 for carrying bikes, kayaks, etc.
  • Basecamp Tent: A $2,975 inflatable tent that mounts at the back of the bed.

Interior Accessories:

  • Sunshade for the glass roof: Costs $115, and blocks two-thirds of light.
  • Center Console Tray and Underseat Storage Bin: Priced at $40 and $250, respectively.

Bed Accessories:

  • Cargo Divider: For $350, fits the angular bed
  • Molle Panels: Custom-fit for $250 each for vertical storage.
  • Vault Cargo Bins: Sold in packs of three for $250.

Wheel and Tire Accessories:

  • Spare Tire and Tool Kit: Costs $1,250, mounts in the bed
  • Air Compressor Ultra + Tire Repair Kit: For $550.

🤓 What the acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
  • EMI: Electromagnetic Compatibility
  • EV: Electric Vehicle
