The New York Times is suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement, contending that artificial intelligence models developed and used by the companies are being trained on millions of articles published by the newspaper.
  • The move against the maker of ChatGPT and Microsoft — which has invested billions in OpenAI — comes as news organizations and others grapple with a new age of generative AI and the protection of original works. 

  • "Defendants seek to free-ride on The Times’s massive investment in its journalism,” the complaint says. While not including an exact monetary demand, the suit says the defendants should be held responsible for “billions of dollars in statutory and actual damages.”

Commercial breaks are coming to Amazon Prime Video movies and TV shows starting Jan. 29, in a move that the company says will allow it “to continue investing in compelling content.” Read more.
