Flow State - Claire Deak
Flow State recommends instrumental albums every weekday to soundtrack deep focus. To support our work and unlock extra features, become a subscriber: Good morning. Today we’re listening to Claire Deak, an Australian multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Melbourne. Thanks to a closer listen for surfacing her work here. Deak studied composition, lectures on the same, and has scored films and TV.¹ In October, she released her first solo LP, Sotto Voce, whose starting point was fragments from baroque composers Francesca Caccini (1587-1640) and Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677). Deak constructed original works around these “musical traces”² and recorded with string accompanists in a 19th century wooden church, a building which she came to view as a contributing instrument in itself.³ We’re also playing The Old Capital from 2020, a collaboration with her partner, multi-instrumentalist and composer Tony Dupé. Sotto Voce - Claire Deak (40m, light backing vocals in the second half) The Old Capital - Claire Deak & Tony Dupé (30m, no vocals) Have a really nice Wednesday. 2 from the Liner Notes |
