Today we’re listening to Laurence Vanay, a prog rock project of French multi-instrumentalist and composer Jacqueline Thibault. In the 1970s she began working at the studio Château d’Hérouville, where artists such as David Bowie and the Bee Gees recorded.¹ Thibault contributed as a sound engineer, composer, keyboardist, arranger, and more – and managed to record her own compositions and release four albums as Laurence Vanay.² La Petite Fenêtre from 1976 is an hour of elegant instrumentals, ending with six sketches for the song “Glaciers Interdits.” We’re also playing her 1975 record, Evening Colours, which starts slow and dramatic then speeds up. The deluxe version includes alternate takes and a couple fragments.
