Flow State - Philip Glass
Flow State recommends instrumental music every weekday, highlighting an artist who inspires music appreciation in this age of algorithms. If you enjoy Flow State, consider becoming a paid member – that unlocks our weekly Tuesday mixes and private Spotify playlists. Good morning. We’re doing all piano music this week. Today we’re listening to Philip Glass, an American composer from Baltimore. We’ve recommended Glass twice before. Glass turned 87 a few weeks ago, days after releasing his latest album, Philip Glass Solo. In 2020 and 2021, Glass spent his time at home practicing piano, eventually recording the seven pieces that make up the new record. There’s an excerpt from Glassworks and one from The Truman Show, and the rest are pieces he originally performed on his 1989 LP, Solo Piano. We’re also playing that record. See if you pick up on any Glenn Gould-style performative variations across different stages of life. Philip Glass Solo - Philip Glass (50m, no vocals) Solo Piano - Philip Glass (50m, no vocals) We wish you a great start to your week. |
