Album Daily - The New Abnormal

#22 - The Week of April 13 - 17

Hi there,

First off, a huge thanks to everyone who utilized the referral program last week.  A bunch of you are getting free stickers, and I can't thank you enough.

With that in mind, I'm going to extend the promo for another week.  Just like before, anyone who gets their first referral this week, will receive an Album Daily sticker!  Details on how to refer are at the bottom of every email I send out.

Last week's most clicked album was an extremely close race, but What Now by Sylvan Esso edged out a victory.

Now turn your speakers up!

The New Abnormal

Genre: Rock
Release Date: April 10, 2020
Top Tracks: Bad Decisions, Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus, Ode to the Mets
Similar Artists: Julian Casablancas, Interpol, Radiohead

The New Abnormal comes at a perfect time, while the world is experiencing a new abnormal way of living, compared to the previous way of life. Much more reserved than their previous work, this marks a change in their style to a focus on production value and distinct combinations of instrumental harmonies. In the end, they still deliver quality tracks that will appeal to their wide fan base, including "Bad Decisions" which sounds like a Billy Idol hit.

Some Day This Will All Make Sense

Album Cover 2

Youtube Logo
Genre: R&B/Soul
Release Date: April 1, 2020
Top Tracks: Attention, 4th of July
Similar Artists: Rochelle Jordan, Solange

Calm and soothing. BOSCO’s new album “Some Day This Will All Make Sense” is a smooth R&B journey. It probably will not get you up and dancing, but if you let take you, it will have your mind wandering and pondering big questions of life. Don’t get me wrong, some of the tracks are groovy, but the real strength of this album is in the intricate combination of vocals and minimalistic production.

The Loves of Your Life

Hamilton Leithauser

Genre: Folk/Indie
Release Date: April 10, 2020
Top Tracks: Don’t Check the Score, Isabella, Wack Jack
Similar Artists: Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes

Hamilton Leithauser is what can be defined as modern folk that is not afraid to experiment. The album gives pearls of wisdom about life, in simple, powerful ways. He captures the essence of friendship so eloquently in the line, "Don’t worry about the score, that's what friends are for." So simple, yet so true. Members of Fleet Foxes, The Shins, and Vampire Weekend were collaborators on this work, and you can hear all of their unique touches throughout the album.

Port of Morrow

The Shins

Genre: Alternative
Release Date: March 16, 2012
Top Tracks: The Simple Song, Fall of ‘82, 40 Mark Strasse
Similar Artists:  Death Cab For Cutie, The National

The overarching theme of The Shins’s, “Port of Morrow”, is the cyclical nature of life. James Mercer explains so eloquently, that we all have ups and downs, and we can’t get too caught up in swing in either direction. “A downturn will eventually improve.” “We all spend a little while, going down the rabbit hole.” The way to get through these downturns he says, is through letting others in, and accepting help.“ I’ve been down the very road you’re walking now. It doesn’t have to be so dark lonesome.” When you see someone on the downturn, reaching out is the best way to help, just being there for them, and showing them that they don’t have to be “lonesome” in this.

Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand

Genre: Rock
Release Date: November 23, 2004
Top Tracks: Take Me Out, Michael
Similar Artists: Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse, The Strokes

It is no secret that the best song on the debut album from the Glasgow group, Franz Ferdinand, is "Take Me Out". This single propelled them to popularity in 2004, and was heard around the world. Their upbeat, guitar-heavy style is full of early 2000's influences that resonated widely. Interestingly, this album was included in the first rendition of "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" by Robert Dimery.
