Real Python - Real Python Membership Q&A

Hey there,

After the email went out yesterday about the Real Python membership, some of you emailed me with a bunch of questions about it.

To make sure you get your questions answered (and to save me some typing) I’m sharing a quick Q&A.

Here we go:

Q: How does a Real Python membership work?

When you sign up, you'll immediately have unlimited viewing access to our entire library of Python screencasts and written tutorials.

Instead of having to go and spend time researching new and interesting things to learn, you can trust that we'll surface helpful and fun topics for you each week. It's like a "gym for Pythonistas" where you can improve your skills and learn new tricks at your own comfortable pace.

You'll also get an invitation to join our private Slack community to chat with other Pythonistas and the Real Python team. It’s our virtual water cooler where you can ask questions and become friends with other Pythonistas.

Q: Does becoming a member gain access to different tutorials?

Yes, as a member you get access to all of the video courses listed on our courses page.

These are members-only, but non-members can preview each course and watch a couple of lessons to see if they like our library before they subscribe.

We release new content on a weekly basis. Our full paid team of instructors and video editors are producing new videos every day! So you can expect to see lessons coming out regularly and at a high frequency.

Q: Is there any way to see a sample of the content or have a free trial? I'm already a developer and would like something to enforce my skills but not sure if this subscription is just covering things I already know.

You can see all of our membership video courses at realpython.com/courses

Each course consists of several video lessons, and currently, I keep 20-30% of each course available for free to non-members. So you can browse around and check out the content before you sign up.

This should give you a good idea of what to expect in terms of quality, lesson length, the course player experience, and so on!

Q: What added benefits are there to the written tutorials as a member?

As a member, you get early access to written tutorials that non-members will only see in a few weeks or even months. This can be a way for you to get a head start on everyone else, and also to interact with the author(s) of that particular tutorial.

Instead of getting lumped in with everyone else's comments on the website, you'll be able to give feedback or ask questions right after the tutorial is set up on the site. This is when the topic is still fresh in the author's mind, and they're eager to hear from readers like you.

(Or, if they're hanging out in the private Slack community, you can "tap them on the shoulder" there and get a chance to ask them directly!)

Q: Can you give me an idea of what the “bonus materials” are included with membership?

Right now we have a lot of bonus content (like PDF cheat sheets, printable workbooks, or downloadable sample projects) that are gated. As a non-member, you would have to enter your email address to receive a link to download any bonus materials.

As a member, you can immediately download this bonus content with a single click!

You’ll also have access to slides and downloadable source code that can only be accessed by members. This is a quick way to review what you’ve learned in a course so you don't have to go back and rewatch 10 lessons to get a refresher.

Alright, that’s it for questions! If you have more, feel free to email us at info@realpython.com and we’ll be happy to answer them :)
