You can upgrade to paid here. Good morning. It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Bond, a British/Australian electric string quartet. The group – originally Haylie Ecker (violin), Eos Counsell (violin), Tania Davis (viola), and Gay-Yee Westerhoff (cello) – formed in 2000.¹ Their innovation was to play classical arrangements over pop and dance rhythms, packaging orchestral virtuosity for Y2K ears. They ended up selling over five million albums, of which today we’re playing two. Born, their 2001 debut, adapts pieces by Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi, and features original compositions reflecting latin, jazz, and Indian influences. But first we’re playing their 2002 record, Shine, which includes a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” and the James Bond Theme.
