U.S. at Risk From Canadian Wildfires

Smoke from the more than 100 active wildfires burning in Canada has drifted across the border into the United States, prompting Minnesota to issue an air quality alert.

At least 90 fires are located in British Columbia and Alberta provinces, filling the skies over parts of Montana, the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin with haze Monday morning.

The fast-moving blazes have engulfed more than 24,000 acres in western Canada. Authorities issued evacuation orders for thousands of residents in the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality and Fort Nelson First Nations in British Columbia. See video of the fires here.

Many of the wildfires have been labeled "out of control," including one that started on Friday in British Columbia and has since spread to 4,200 acres, forcing the evacuation of the small town of Fort Nelson and the Fort Nelson Indian Reserve, officials said.

Game Stop Stock Roars Again

Shares of GameStop soared as much as 110% Monday as the meme stock was halted eight times for volatility before noon and closed more than $30 per share higher, a 75% rise.

The run was triggered by a social media post from Keith Gill, better known as “Roaring Kitty.” Gill's meme-stock exploits were popularized in the movie "Dumb Money," which showed how he helped run Game Stop stock up to $347.51 per share.

Gill’s social media post on Sunday was his first in three years. It also boosted shares of AMC, which leaped 78%, and headphone maker Koss, which spiked 37%.

Memorial Day Travel Nears Record Level

Memorial Day is shaping up to be the busiest travel weekend in 20 years, with 43.8 million vacationers expected to travel 50 miles or more, up 4% from last year. The record was 44 million travelers in 2005.

Road travelers alone are expected to hit a record 38.4 million, the highest number since AAA started tracking the number in 2000. Another 3.5 million will fly, and millions more will take buses, trains, or cruises.

To avoid the worst traffic, experts say to hit the road before 11 a.m. or after 7 or 8 p.m. on Thursday or Friday, and before 1 p.m. on Sunday. If you’re coming home on Memorial Day itself, best leave after 7 p.m. Here are more travel tips.
