Growing up in the middle of a civil war in Lebanon, Gaby el Ashkar created and destroyed his art as a coping mechanism to deal with all the ugliness around him. 

In his talk for our Ottawa chapter, Gaby shares his work and stories of the atrocities and corruption that it seeks to address. He points out that corrupt institutions and individuals use design principles and distraction techniques to manipulate our perceptions and control power. But artists have the power to shine a light and counter those negative forces.
