Happy Saturday! On this date in 1980, Mount St. Helens, a volcanic peak in southwestern Washington, became the largest and most destructive volcanic eruption in U.S. history. The massive eruption killed 57 people and devastated some 210 square miles of wilderness.

Scheffler Arrested at PGA Championship

Masters champion Scottie Scheffler was arrested Friday morning on his way to the second round of the PGA Championship, booked on four charges, including second-degree assault of a police officer after his vehicle dragged an officer to the ground. See arrest video here.

Scheffler’s arrest was the result of the golfer trying to navigate traffic caused by an early morning fatal accident involving a shuttle bus and a tournament worker just outside the Valhalla golf course.

The world’s No. 1 golfer allegedly drove past a police officer at the scene and ignored instructions. The officer screamed at him to stop and then grabbed onto the car until Scheffler stopped about 10 yards later.

Scheffler would later issue an apology, saying he thought he was following police instructions and his actions weren’t intentional.

Severe Weather Hammers Houston

Powerful storms tore through the Houston area Thursday, producing high winds, tornadoes, power outages, and killing at least four people. See footage of the storm here.

Hurricane-force winds and hail toppled trees and smashed windows, leaving streets littered with glass, electrical lines, and other debris. Rain, nearly seven inches in some areas, triggered flooding. See the damage here.

By Friday, the storms had left nearly 800,000 residents and businesses without power, forcing school closures and flight cancellations at Houston’s two major airports.

A new report by Zillow, an online real-estate marketplace, indicated Florida and Texas home markets are the best for buyers, while Buffalo, the Bay Area, and the Northeast rank among the best areas for sellers. See full results here.

Zillow examined the 50 largest U.S. metro areas and analyzed where homes were selling the fastest, where price cuts are happening the most, where housing inventory is growing the most, and where home values are climbing.

The Texas market has been boosted by a rise in inventory in cities like Austin and San Antonio, while in Florida more homes are hitting the market in metros like Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville.

Homeowners in Buffalo, the Bay Area, and the Northeast are in areas with limited inventory, meaning homes sell quickly, have fewer price cuts, and less options for homebuyers.
