The New York Times - We love this not-a-hat hat

“The $20 visor I’ll be wearing all summer long”

Baseball hats have never been senior staff writer Rose Maura Lorre’s thing. Sure, they protect her eyes from the sun—but they can be stiff and uncomfortable, and don’t do too much for her neck and ears. Then there’s sun hats, but they’re not ideal for her go-to summer hairdo: piled high in a topknot. Sun visors? “I fear they make me look like an old-timey poker dealer,” she writes.

What does work for her? This hat-visor hybrid. Not only does it boast an extra-wide brim for sun protection and an adjustable fit, it’s also cute and comfortable to wear—even when you get it wet. And we love that it’s designed to be rolled up to the size of a small water bottle, perfect for travel and spontaneous summer outings.

After researching and testing UPF shirts, hats, and accessories in daily life—on runs, at a camping trip, around the neighborhood, and at home while doing yard work—we landed on a few favorites. They’re lightweight, breathable, and somewhat stylish … at least enough for you to willingly bust them out of your closet.

Hats, shirts, and more→

One last thing: We tried those flat-back earrings we keep seeing on our feeds

Sleeping in traditional butterfly-back earrings is notoriously uncomfortable. But flat-back earrings—billed as hypo-allergenic, tarnish-resistant, and siesta-approved game changers—might not be the miracle solution they promise to be on Instagram. After wearing a pair day and night for six weeks, our style expert has a verdict: They, like their backs, fall a little flat.

They’re comfortable, but there are a lot of buts→

Also, as seen in NYT Style: A sock war is afoot…
